Outdoor Wall Light

Designing the landscape lighting of a new home can be an exciting and complex task. There are spotlights, up lights, motion lights and many other types of lighting to consider. Additionally there are different areas and reasons for lighting those areas that must be taken into consideration. However, there is one light that practically all homes have and that is the outdoor wall light.

The outdoor wall light is typically the first light a person sees as they approach the home, unless of course the driveway is very long and then the pathway or driveway lights would be the first ones seen. Regardless of this, the choice of outdoor wall lighting is an important aesthetic consideration that is usually chosen to match the exterior of the home.

Porch lighting is often the first outdoor wall light considered when purchasing the fixtures. Some porches are lit by overhead lighting or down lighting that comes from the porch roof. However, even in the presence of a down light many homeowners choose to install a wall light. These add a touch of beauty and also a light that can be dimmer than the down light.

Outdoor wall lights are also often installed for security on corners or the home or walls that are covered more in darkness than other areas of the home. Some of these outdoor wall lights are motion detector lights or spotlights that can bring the daylight to the darkness when necessary.

The choice of styles of outdoor wall lighting can be based on the style of the house. A Victorian-style house would be best suited with a Victorian style light, such as a wall-mounted lantern that runs on natural gas. This touch adds personality to the house and brings the exterior and interior together in one package.

Modern wall lighting choices are available that bring the home into the world of today. Stainless steel fixtures with modern design elements become pieces of art that accentuate the home and welcome guests.  These wall lights can be enhanced with various hues of bulbs that add to the light fixture’s personality and how it affects the home.

The many different types of outdoor wall lighting available make it possible for the homeowner’s personality to show through their choices. Gothic, rustic, antique and many more designs are available to choose from to make the home as individual as the homeowner.

Guests remember the first thing they see; choosing a unique outdoor wall light will allow the house to become fixed in the guest’s memory. When this is accomplished, the homeowner knows they have made decorating and functioning decisions that work for the house.
