No longer do homeowner’s wait for holidays to light up their landscape or gardens. The use of the outdoor garden light design has become as important a part of home design as the landscape itself. More and more homes are including the outdoor garden light in the beginning stages of home building.

How homeowner’s incorporate lighting depends on the reason for adding it to the plan. Some people desire to have an outdoor garden light designed for safety, some for security and others looking at it from an aesthetic point of view. Regardless of the reason, outdoor garden lights are more popular than ever.

Safety

Guests who arrive at your home or leave your home after dark, you and your family coming home after dark, these are two good examples of safety reasons for adding an outdoor garden light plan to your landscape.

Illuminating the driveway with medium-sized post lamps helps guests to arrive at your house and not veer off the driveway and into your flowerbed. A footpath to your door that is illuminated with soft moonstones is as appealing to the eye as it is a safety feature that helps your guests find their way home.

Even though you live in your home and know your way around, having outdoor garden lights can help you avoid falling and tripping when making your way inside after dark. It also helps you to see how to fit your key in the door.

Security

While nothing is going to stop the thief who is adamant about breaking in to a house, having outdoor lighting is a good deterrent. Thieves prefer to work under cover of darkness so they will most likely avoid the house with outdoor lighting.

One particularly good deterrent is a motion detector with an outdoor garden light built in. This acts as a floodlight and comes on only when motion is detected. Imagine a would-be intruder’s surprise when the lights are suddenly blaring down on him.

Outdoor garden light plans that are meant for security reasons should be sure to include any areas of the lawn that are in remote areas or are heavily covered in brush or thicket. If you don’t want those areas to be always lit up at night, consider using a motion detector flood light.

Aesthetics

Making the home’s exterior as visually appealing as possible is another major reason homeowner’s opt for outdoor garden light plans. From entertaining guests to just enjoying a summer evening on the porch, adding light to your garden creates a mystical, serene setting or a festival setting, depending on your scheme.

There are as many lighting scheme’s out there as there are lights to use in them. Together with a landscape designer or on your own, you can design and install outdoor lighting to complement your home or your personality. Perhaps the garden area is where your inner child is loosed and you use fairies and gnomes to bring it to life.

Whatever the reasons for adding outdoor garden light to your landscape plan you can rest assured that there are hundreds if not thousands of possibilities to help you achieve the goal. From paths that area safe to the dark back recesses of your yard, outdoor garden light plans will brighten your night.
